Colbert I. King

» Deputy Editorial Page Editor and columnist | Colbert I. “Colby” King is a weekly columnist for The Post, specializing in urban and national affairs. His column appears on Saturdays.

King had a long career before joining The Post’s editorial board in 1990. He served at the U.S. Embassy in Bonn with the State Department and later helped draft home-rule legislation for the District of Columbia in the Senate. In 1979, King was named U.S. executive director to the World Bank. He was appointed deputy editorial page editor in 2000, and served in that capacity until 2007.

King is a three-time finalist in the American Society of Newspaper Editors’ Distinguished Writing Awards competition. He is a weekly panelist on Gordon Peterson’s ABC-7 show, “Inside Washington.” He is also a commentator on WTOP Radio, where he was awarded the 2005 Chesapeake Associated Press Broadcasters Association’s award for outstanding editorial commentary. King was awarded the 2003 Pulitzer Prize for commentary.
