Derek, who was born in Philadelphia, graduated from the University of Missouri in December with a bachelor’s degree in journalism.

He previously worked at the Columbia (Mo.) Daily Tribune and has had internships at the London bureau of The Associated Press; the Omaha (Neb.) World-Herald; the state capitol bureau of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch; and The Dallas Morning News.
