Jo-Ann Armao is an editorial writer for The Post, specializing in education and local affairs in the District of Columbia.
Armao came to The Post in 1984. Before that, she was city editor and assistant state editor at the Charlotte Observer. She began her career in 1973 at the Buffalo Courier-Express, where she worked opposite Tom Toles. She started at The Post as an assignment editor on the District staff, and two years later she became a reporter covering government and politics in Montgomery County. In 1992, she was named Virginia editor. Armao was named deputy metro editor in 1993 and city editor in 1994. She joined the editorial board in 2006.
