» Editorial Writer | Lee Hockstader is an editorial writer for The Post, specializing in politics and state and local affairs in Virginia and Maryland. He writes occasional op-ed columns on politics in Maryland and Virginia.

Hockstader joined the paper in 1984 as a reporter on the metropolitan desk. In 1989, he became a foreign correspondent, and over the next 13 years he worked in four of the newspaper’s bureaus: Jerusalem, Rome, Moscow and the bureau covering Central America and the Caribbean. He returned to the United States as a national correspondent based in Texas in 2002, and joined the editorial board in 2004.
