» Reporter | V. Dion Haynes has covered the D.C. public schools for The Post since 2005. He is presently on assignment with the investigative team for the “Fixing D.C.’s Schools” series. Dion’s previous work has included an investigation into excessive special education spending and a narrative piece on two high-achieving young men at a low-achieving high school for the paper’s “Being a Black Man” series, which won the Casey medal among other awards.

Before joining The Post, he worked at the Chicago Tribune for 13 years, where he covered the Chicago Public Schools and worked as a national correspondent based in Los Angeles. He co-authored an investigation documenting waste in the district’s school construction program and a series on teen pregnancy for the paper’s yearlong “Saving Our Children” project, which won a Robert F. Kennedy award for public service.

Dion, who grew up in Detroit, has a bachelor’s degree from Wayne State University and a master’s degree from Northwestern University.
