Google, headquartered in Mountain View, California, was founded in 1998. The founders named the search engine they built "Google," a play on the word "googol," the mathematical term for a 1 followed by 100 zeros. The name reflects the immense volume of information that exists, and the scope of Google's mission: to organize the world's information and make it universally accessible and useful.
Google Enterprise Solutions makes the Google search appliance and geospatial products, including Google Earth and Google Maps to the federal government, including the military and intelligence community. A small number of sales and support people have Top Secret clearances to liaise with the government.
