Lockheed Martin Space Systems Company comprises two primary business units: Space Systems and Michoud Operations; and two joint ventures, United Space Alliance and United Launch Alliance. Space Systems Company designs, develops, tests, manufactures and operates a full spectrum of advanced-technology systems for national security, civil and commercial customers. Chief products include human space flight systems; a full range of remote sensing, navigation, meteorological and communications satellites and instruments; space observatories and interplanetary spacecraft; laser radar; fleet ballistic missiles; and missile defense systems.
United Launch Alliance, based in Denver, CO., a joint venture formed by Lockheed Martin and the Boeing Company in 2006, to provide Atlas and Delta launch services for the U.S. Government, including the Department of Defense, NASA, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and the National Reconnaissance Office.
Lockheed Martin Corporation was formed in March 1995 with the merger of Lockheed Corporation and Martin Marietta Corporation. On Sept. 2, 2008, Lockheed Martin announced that it had completed its acquisition of Aculight Corporation. Lockheed Martin acquired The SYTEX Group, Inc. (TSGI) in 2005.
