Orbital develops and manufactures small- and medium-class rockets and space systems for commercial, military and civil government customers. The company's primary products are satellites and launch vehicles, including low-Earth orbit, geosynchronous-Earth orbit and planetary spacecraft for communications, remote sensing, scientific and defense missions; human-rated space systems for Earth-orbit, lunar and other missions; ground- and air-launched rockets that deliver satellites into orbit; and missile defense systems that are used as interceptor and target vehicles. Orbital also provides satellite subsystems and space-related technical services to government agencies and laboratories.
Orbital Sciences Corporation has two Maryland locations situated in the Washington, D.C. suburbs. Greenbelt, near the NASA Goddard Space Flight Center, is home to the Technical Services Facilities headquarters. Work performed here includes engineering and analysis, while the assembly facility in nearby Beltsville offers state of the art equipment for quick turnaround of flight electronics, harnesses, cables, mechanical components, and ground support equipment for NASA, NRL, and other customers. Orbital Sciences Corp.'s second location is in Columbia, Maryland, home to Orbital's Transportation Systems Management Division.
Orbital Sciences makes satellites used for communications, remote sensing, and scientific purposes and manufactures launch vehicles for satellites and suborbital rockets used to test missile defense systems. Associated operations include the design and manufacture of satellite-based transportation management systems, primarily for mass transit agencies.
