U.S. Transportation Command (USTRANSCOM) was activated in 1987 to provide a single commander with responsibility for air, land and sea transportation for the Department of Defense in times of peace and of war. USTRANSCOM is a unified command with transportation component commands from three armed services: the Air Force's Air Mobility Command (AMC), the Army's Military Surface Deployment and Distribution Command (SDDC), and the Navy's Military Sealift Command (MSC). USTRANSCOM is the single manager of defense transportation.
USTRANSCOM and the AMC are headquartered at Scott Air Force Base, Ill. The SDDC is headquartered in Alexandria. The MSC is headquartered in Washington, D.C.
The Joint Transportation Intelligence Center USTRANSCOM (JICTRANS) acts as the focal point for all defense transportation intelligence, providing crucial information to aid the decisions of our operating forces.
