The "Suikoden" series has never really achieved the console role-playing-game success of rival "Final Fantasy" games, though it has always been popular. The series reinventing itself with each sequel doesn't help retain fans. "Suikoden V," which will probably be the last of the series for the aging PS2, finally seems to get everything right.
