Why should voters elect you?

"I bring civic involvement, plus teaching, education policy and senior management experience, creating community partnerships. I will work full time for meaningful, lasting change."

What do you think is the most urgent problem facing your jurisdiction?

"We must raise achievement at under-performing schools and help high-performing ones thrive. We need to give principals independence to manage effectively and support them. I will work toward three concrete goals: First, ensure that parents' concerns are heard and acted on promptly by holding frequent school meetings and creating an interactive Web site to identify and address issues. Second, correct health and safety defects in school buildings, including fixing all bathrooms by school year 2008. Third, develop partnerships with civic organizations, universities and corporations so every school has mentors, tutors and curriculum enrichment available by 2008."
