Why should voters elect you?

"I stand up for groups who are often left out of the political process — including immigrants, minorities, the disabled, seniors and gays and lesbians."

What do you think is the most urgent problem facing your jurisdiction?

"Transportation remains the most urgent problem facing Northern Virginia. It threatens our economic prosperity and quality of life. Sprawl and congestion also hasten damage to the environment. Transit improvements remain the best strategy to avoid additional congestion and prevent increased environmental damage. Improvements on Columbia Pike and in the Potomac Yard corridor can serve as models for further transit expansion. Pollution poses a major threat to our future. The longer we take to seriously address the problem, the greater the damage will be. We must accelerate our response to climate change before it is too late.

What is your plan to address the traffic problems in Virginia?

Transportation is the most urgent problem facing Northern Virginia. I continue to support transit, including improvements on Columbia Pike and in the Potomac Yard corridor as the best strategy to avoid additional congestion and prevent increased environmental damage. We must encourage the “smart growth” policies that have worked so well for Arlington across the Commonwealth and also provide incentives for the purchase of high mileage vehicles. I support additional increases in transportation funding to deal with the demands that threaten our regional economy and quality of life. However, I support full repeal of the "abuser fee" funding scheme, and replacement of that revenue with a more fair tax that applies to all drivers. Converting the basis for our gasoline tax from cents per gallon to a percentage would provide additional funds needed in future years.

Do you think current policies governing growth & development in your area are too restrictive, not restrictive enough or just right?
