Why should voters elect you?

"Voters should elect me because I have a proven record of working across the aisle for our schools, roads and the environment."

What do you think is the most urgent problem facing your jurisdiction?

"While there are many issues in this diverse district, nothing can get fixed unless we can cut through the partisan bickering to work for real change. When I retired from the House of Delegates to take care of a business in need of attention, the Fredericksburg Free-Lance Star said, 'Politics at every level needs more people like Albert Pollard. ... He is a shining example of principled middleness.' I promise to bring this same level of common-sense commitment to the state Senate."

What is your plan to address the traffic problems in Virginia?

I alone cannot fix transportation, but my complete plan involves 1) moving VDOT off of its "standards" which prevent common-sense solutions; 2) ensuring that VDOT funding first addresses the solutions which have the most value added (ie commuter lots, turn lanes, etc); 3) ensuring that fast growing localities have the tools to grow gracefully and delay growth when roads, schools and sewar aren't adequate (my opponent doesn't think localities should have this tool); and, 4) fighting to make sure the Fredericksburg Transporation District gets its fair share -- in the last transportation bill it got the second smallest increase of any transporation district, despite record growth.

Please visit www.pollardforsenate.com to read the complete transportation plan.

Because of the diverse (rural and fast-growing) nature of this district the question below cannot be fairly answered. Some localities need to gain population and others clearly need to restrict growth.

Do you think current policies governing growth & development in your area are too restrictive, not restrictive enough or just right?
