Why should voters elect you?

I have a proven record of success providing responsible leadership in Richmond and a road map for progress ahead.

What do you think is the most urgent problem facing your jurisdiction?

I recently returned from the governor's trade mission to India, and it couldn't be clearer that the most urgent challenge facing Virginia is to prepare for the 21st-century global economy. To compete will require investments in our educational infrastructure and achieving educational excellence. We need to establish a continuum of educational opportunities form early childhood to post-graduate education. As well, our communities need new improvements in our transportation system including rail and transit, and a high-quality, affordable, accessible health-care system in order to succeed.

What is your plan to address the traffic problems in Virginia?

Our traffic problems can not be addressed by gimmicks and half measures like these abusive driver fees. I'm proud to have opposed them consitently over the past three years. We need a comprehensive approach to transportation that provides long-term, sustainable, dedicated revenue to Northern Virginia without diverting funds from education and other essential public services. The transportation investments should focus on transit and rail to move greatest numbers of people, most efficiently, and with the least potential harm to our environment. Last session I was proud to work to strengthen our office of intermodal planning and investment to better coordinate land-use planning, transportation and transit.

Do you think current policies governing growth & development in your area are too restrictive, not restrictive enough or just right?
