Why should voters elect you?
I have the experience to tackle the issues that matter to our community. I've fought for this area since I moved here 40 years ago.
What do you think is the most urgent problem facing your jurisdiction?
The most urgent crisis facing us is overdevelopment, congestion and transportation. We must work to make certain proper planning is in place so that development does not overburden our transportation infrastructure and local core services like education, health care and public education.
What is your plan to address the traffic problems in Virginia?
This year, for the first time in two decades, I fought for a plan to invest up to $400 million dollars a year in Northern Virginiaâs transportation infrastructure. This will not solve every problem, but is a step in the right direction. This plan took the first critical step in creating a secure, dedicated transportation trust fund. We must build on this revenue and ensure that funds raised for transportation cannot be raided for other downstate "pet projects". I will be putting forward a plan to do four things. One, change the funding formula so that Northern Virginia sees a better return on the tax dollars sent to Richmond. Two, ensure that Metro Rail to Dulles becomes a reality in the coming years. Three, encourage Virginia to enter into Public/Private partnerships in transportation projects to reduce costs. And finally, encourage companies to promote teleworking whenever and where ever possible.
Do you think current policies governing growth & development in your area are too restrictive, not restrictive enough or just right?
