Why should voters elect you?
Voters should reelect me because I have spent four years listening and responding to important environmental, educational, development and transportation issues raised by the community.
What do you think is the most urgent problem facing your jurisdiction?
I believe that construction of the Dulles rail project will have the single most significant impact on the quality of life for residents living along the length of this corridor from McLean to Herndon. While a tunnel has always been the preferred option through Tysons Corner, and I have consistently advocated for that alignment, my ultimate goal is to see that this crucial project gets under construction. I am committed to ensuring that a congestion mitigation plan is in place that minimizes disruption, particularly for the McLean community during the construction process.
What is your plan to address the traffic problems in Virginia?
Everyone knows Northern Virginia faces a congestion crisis and I have worked to provide workable solutions. As Supervisor, my approach has been to ease congestion by increasing our transportation choices and concentrating future development around transit hubs. I have enhanced pedestrian and bicycle linkages and voted to authorize transportation bonds that allow Fairfax to build unfunded State projects. By improving bus access to mass transit and telecommuting, and funding neighborhood spot improvements, like turn lanes, signals and traffic calming, I continue to address local congestion problems.
I have worked with state legislators to bring new funding for transportation projects to Fairfax and Northern Virginia. We approved various spot improvement projects that lengthened and added turn lanes at key intersections. I have supported transportation bonds that will raise more than $200 million to fund additional local projects. I will continue to pressure the State to keep the transportation funding spigot open.
Do you think current policies governing growth & development in your area are too restrictive, not restrictive enough or just right?
