Why should voters elect you?
I have the experience, leadership and skill set required to make the positive changes needed in the Broad Run District and Loudoun County.
What do you think is the most urgent problem facing your jurisdiction?
The problem of poorly managed, unbalanced growth has led to many of the difficulties in Broad Run and Loudoun. Over the past four years, Loudoun has grown at a rate of 8 percent compared with the Washington metro growth of 2 percent. Our public schools are overburdened, and class sizes are higher than recommended by the Virginia Education Association. Our property taxes have risen by 43 percent, and our commercial/business tax base has declined to 14 percent. We are spending precious time in traffic instead of with our families. Law enforcement is stretched too thin. We must do better.
What is your plan to address the traffic problems in Virginia?
In the Broad Run District and Loudoun County we need to address our transportation problem in a multifaceted way. First we need to work with key note employers and encourage them to increase employee telecommuting. We need to increase our public transportation options; short term we need to prioritize the East/ West Commuter Bus Routes (Rt 7) and long term work toward rail to Dulles. We also need to complete our plan road grid and complete several missing segments of east/west roads including, Gloucester Parkway (Ashburn) and Riverside Parkway (Lansdowne to University). Because unsafe roads and intersection not only threaten life but also slow traffic we need to make the needed safety upgrades such as the merge at Rt 28 and 7. We need to encourage public private partnership such as the Rt 28 tax district and pressure State officials to increase our share of tax dollars for road funding.
Do you think current policies governing growth & development in your area are too restrictive, not restrictive enough or just right?
not restrictive enough
