Why should voters elect you?
"I have a solid 'slow growth' record; never accepted campaign contributions from developers. Budgeted appropriately under a decade of exploding population. Have experience and integrity."
What do you think is the most urgent problem facing your jurisdiction?
"Loudoun's most urgent problem is reining in overdevelopment so that we can catch up with road construction while we expand strategies to ease traffic congestion: telework, public transit. Concurrently, it will be a challenge to maintain county fiscal stability, provide stable delivery of basic services, fire and rescue and law enforcement, along with an excellent school system under increasing debt service payments. Loudoun's Economic Development Commission's strategies to bring continued commercial development and jobs will offset rising residential property taxes. It's time for Loudoun to review its general plan and restore its 2003 tightly managed growth."
What is your plan to address the traffic problems in Virginia?
Loudoun County has a Comprehensive Transportation Plan in place tied to its expected growth. For a decade implementation of these improvements has lacked adequate state funding. This year with Virginia transportation funding increased, I will continue to support expansion of our major east-west commuter roads - Route 7 and Route 28. We must bring these roads to freeway status and build their 4-lane parallel roads, reducing bottlenecks. Leesburg By-pass is now funded for the Sycolin Road Overpass and expansion to 6 lanes also.
Additionally easing the miserable traffic congestion we all experience - providing for a reliable commute -requires a mix of strategies. Those strategies include fostering telework, adding pedestrian and bicycling paths, and expansion of public transit. Much reduction in time delay is also gained from improving the operational efficiency of our existing network - synchronizing lights, quickly managing crashes and better managing highway work zones.
Do you think current policies governing growth & development in your area are too restrictive, not restrictive enough or just right?
