I am committed to improving our students' educational opportunities. My overarching principle is and shall always be: Children First!
What do you think is the most urgent problem facing your jurisdiction?
Student growth: Over the next five years, our schools will welcome nearly 17,000 additional students, an increase of more than 30 percent. As our population increases, so does the diversity of our students. Today, we have over 70 languages spoken among students who represent many different races and cultures. Increased diversity creates short-term challenges but strengthens our schools and community in the long run. In order to meet the challenges of growth, we must recruit new teachers and retain experienced teachers. We must also take advantages of technological advances to improve the delivery of the curriculum and improve operational efficiency.
What is your plan to address the traffic problems in Virginia?
With more than 6,000 employees and over 53,000 students, LCPS is a contributor to the traffic congestion in Loudoun County, especially in the mornings. By effectively planning our school's traffic patterns and maximiming student use of buses we can minimize our impact. By staggering the start of the school day for our Elementary, Middle and High Schools we have spread out the impact.
