U.S. House, District 4

About the Race

Voters in parts of Prince George's and Montgomery counties will go to polls again June 17, when Prince George's non-profit executive Donna F. Edwards, a Democrat, faces Republican Peter James (R) in a special election to fill the seat of former Rep. Albert R. Wynn (D). Edwards trounced Wynn in the Feb. 12 Democratic primary in the 4th Congressional District. That ended Wynn's 15-year tenure as U.S.representative, but it didn't automatically propel Edwards into Congress. Instead, it gave her the right to face James, who won the Republican primary the same day, in the November election. It was Wynn's surprise resignation, before the end of his term, that led to the special election. The winner will be sworn in within days of the election and will serve out the remainder of Wynn's term. Edwards and James will then face each other once again in November, to take the seat in January. Polls will be open tomorrow from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.
