What is the most urgent problem facing your jurisdiction?

The City of Falls Church was founded by people who wanted to live in a community where education is the highest priority. Our challenge now, as then: How can a small, independent city offer a world-class education to all of it's public school students? We must be innovative: The new IB Program for the primary years and for the middle years will help continue our tradition of curriculum excellence. We also must continue to attract and retain the very best personnel. Most of our school budget goes to personnel costs, but high-quality teachers are essential to our students' success.

Why should voters elect you?

My first-hand understanding of our schools. I have children in second and fifth grade, and my willingness to devote time and energy to the board.

What steps, if any, should your county take to mitigate the affects of a slowing economy?

We must coninue to look closely at every dollar we spend in the school budget, focusing our resources on student learning in the classroom, innovative curriculum, and competitive personnel pay.
