What is the most urgent problem facing your jurisdiction?
The safety of the pedestrians and motorists continues to be one of my top priorities. I have spent the last two years laying the groundwork for a master streetscape plan that would improve the aesthetics and charm of the town, enhance the historic elements and, more important, install traffic-calming and pedestrian-safety measures. We started burying the cables on Main Street and will continue to work with the utility companies to get them underground. I have the determination to continue to work on these important projects.
Why should voters elect you?
I would like to continue to champion a master streetscape plan, including utilities-burial and flood plain projects.
What steps, if any, should your county take to mitigate the affects of a slowing economy?
The Town of Clifton needs to take a look at new ways of generating recurring revenue without disrupting the current business infrastructure.
In March, the Virginia Supreme Court ruled the transportation package passed by lawmakers last year unconstitutional, endangering major projects across the region. What steps, if any, should the county, region and state take to address funding issues for transportation projects?
Clifton has 2 transportation grants that need to be obligated before the Town can seek any additional funding. After many years of negotiation, the Town is currently working with VDOT to expend those funds.
